Crafted For Courage

Effective 22 October 2026 · Last updated 22 October 2026

The short version

We sell handmade tribute pieces, many of them made from photographs of people who have died. We understand what you are trusting us with.

We keep your photograph only as long as we need it to make and deliver your piece, and then we delete it. We do not sell it, license it, or use it to advertise. We do not train anything on it. Nobody outside the people making your order sees it unless you tick the box that lets Lise show the finished piece.

The rest of this page is the detail.

We are a small business in Minnesota. When this policy says "we," it means us and the small number of people who help us fill orders.

What we collect

When you place an order. Your name, email address, shipping address, and what you ordered. Payment card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our systems — we see only the last four digits and the card brand.

When you order a custom piece. The photographs or signatures you upload, the name of each file as it was on your device, the choices you make for the piece (shape, size, finish, and any words or engraving you add), and your answers to the two permission questions on the page.

When you upload a photograph. To stop the upload service being misused, we count uploads from each internet address for one hour. We keep a one-way code made from the address, not the address itself. The code cannot be turned back into the address without a secret key that only we hold. Entries older than an hour are cleared the next time anyone uploads.

Automatically. Standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested — kept for security and troubleshooting.

We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

Your photographs

This deserves its own section.

We use your photograph to make the piece you ordered. It is not used for marketing, samples, social media, or product photography. The one exception is the optional box on the product page, "Lise may show the finished piece." If you tick it, Lise may photograph the finished piece for the website, and she will send you that photograph before anything is published. If you leave it unticked, nothing from your order is ever shown. Email us any time before it is published to change your answer.

We do not use it to train artificial intelligence. Not ours, and not anyone else's.

It is stored privately. Uploaded files live in private storage that is not publicly reachable. There is no permanent web address anyone can guess or share. When the site shows you your own photographs in your cart, it uses links that stop working after fifteen minutes. Lise opens the files through our storage provider's secure dashboard.

We keep the file as you sent it. We do not re-encode or strip anything, because we print from the original and any processing costs quality. That has a consequence you should know: photographs from phones and cameras often carry hidden information, including the location where the photo was taken. If your photograph was taken at home, its file may contain your home's coordinates. We do not look at this, use it, or share it, and the file is deleted on the schedule below. If you would rather it not be there at all, most phones can strip location data before sharing, and any free metadata tool will remove it.

We delete it. See the schedule below. We do not keep your photograph indefinitely, and we do not build an archive.

Your proof comes by email. Before anything is printed, Lise emails you a proof from her own email address, and your reply comes back there.

Lise's working copies. Lise downloads your original photographs to work from, and deletes those copies when your piece ships. The proof emails and your replies stay in her email.

How long we keep things

What How long
Order records — what you bought, what you paid, where it shipped 7 years
A photograph uploaded but never ordered 7 days after upload
A photograph you replace with another before ordering Deleted when you replace it
Photographs for a tribute you withdraw, when you keep the rest of the order Deleted at the next daily run after you withdraw it
Photographs on an order refunded in full Deleted at the next daily run after the refund
Your original photographs, after your piece ships 90 days
Lise's downloaded working copies of your photographs Deleted when your piece ships

Deletion runs once a day, so a photograph goes at the first daily run after its time is up.

Why order records stay for seven years. Tax and accounting law. These are transaction records — what was ordered, what was paid, where it went — not photographs. For a custom piece they include the words, engraving and permission answers you gave.

Why the originals go at 90 days. That is long enough to cover a reprint, a package lost in transit, or a problem discovered after delivery. After that we have no reason to hold a photograph of your family member, and holding it would be a risk to you with no benefit to you.

When a photograph is deleted, we keep a short note that it existed — its size and dates, not its name — as the record that it was deleted.

If you want your photograph deleted sooner than the schedule above, email us and we will do it, as long as your piece has already shipped.

Who else touches your information

We use a small number of outside services to run the business. Each gets only what it needs.

Service What it handles
Stripe Payments. Your card details go to them directly, not to us.
Supabase Our database and file storage. Your order details and photographs live here.
Vercel Hosting for the website.
Shipping carriers Your name and address, so the box arrives.

We do not sell your information to anyone. We do not share it for advertising. We will disclose information if the law requires it, and we will tell you if we are permitted to.

Sales tax

We use Stripe's tax service to calculate sales tax where we are registered to collect it. This means your shipping address is used to determine the correct rate. We collect and remit that tax ourselves.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets two small cookies, and only to keep your cart. One remembers the ready-made pieces in your cart and the other remembers the custom pieces you have added. They hold reference numbers only — no name, no email, no photograph — and they cannot be read by the page's scripts. Each lasts 7 days from the last time your cart changed. Because they only make the cart work, they are strictly necessary and there is nothing to opt into.

The site runs no analytics. Stripe's checkout page, which is on Stripe's own domain, sets its own cookies when you pay.

Email

Order receipts and refund notices are sent by Stripe, our payment processor, to the email address you give at checkout.

For a custom piece, Lise also writes to you herself, from her own email address, to send your proof and to ask for a replacement photograph if one will not print well.

We do not currently send marketing email. If that changes, it will be opt-in and you will be able to leave at any time.

Security

Payment data never reaches our systems. Access to order records is limited to the people who fill orders.

Files are stored privately, and the site shows them only through short-lived links.

No system is perfectly secure and we will not claim otherwise. If something happens that affects your information, we will tell you.

Children

This site is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Your choices

You can ask us to:

  • Tell you what we hold about you
  • Correct something that is wrong
  • Delete your photographs, once your piece has shipped
  • Delete your order records, subject to the tax and accounting periods above

Email info@craftedforcourage.com and we will handle it. We will not ask you to prove anything beyond confirming you are the person who placed the order.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state law. Ask and we will honor them.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant — particularly if we change how long we keep photographs — we will say so plainly rather than quietly editing the page.
